I'm taking an online class

I try to learn at least one new thing everyday.  Today I began an online class offered by FiveStar Technology on blended learning.

I have always wanted to be a better teacher than I was the day before.  To this end, I am still learning how to incorporate more technology into my classroom.  Unfortunately, I don't have the luxury of a 1:1 classroom, but I do have 4 computers in my class and we have a lab down the hall.  I have 1 Ipad and another on the way.  (I'm not sure how to best use these, yet), but I will learn.  I also have a Promethean board that I use right now as a glorified overhead, but again I am learning what more I can do with it.

When you have been a teacher as long as I have, you will see many trends come and go.  Computers and the increased awareness of the world that they bring into our classrooms should be a number one priority for every teacher who is trying to help her/his students to be a vital part of the 21st century and beyond.  We must, and I'm talking to those of you who have been doing this for more than 25 years, learn as much as we can to be able to guide our students to utilize the technology that exists now and is everchanging.  Many, if not all of our students, may know more than we do so it behooves us to be the best we can be.  I know it's cliche but it is true.

Teaching is not a job.  It is a chosen profession.  I hope all of you will join with me in continuing to learn something new everyday.   http://teachpaperless.blogspot.com/2009/09/why-teachers-should-blog.html

  1. I really enjoy reading your blog and LOVED the link to the teachpaperless blog. I know there are LOTS of us who feel we don't have much to say or that anyone would want to read ideas we have. I still feel we should put ourselves out there and see who might listen! (Isn't that what teachers do everyday???)
